Cosmos did themselves proud

Cosmos v Kingswood

The early kick-off saw Kingswood arrive at a very wet Marble Hill, the persistent rain showing no signs of letting up. Cosmos faced their first league opponents since an early promotion, keen to build on the strong form shown since the start of the season.

The game started positively for the home team, with plenty of impressive passing. Jeremias and Josh looked in control, working the ball through to midfield. Harry, Tye and Freddie all linked up well and Joe spearheaded an attack that regularly stemmed from passing moves involving all of them. The supporters were getting great entertainment, despite the weather, with lots of end to end play, as a resolute Kingswood tried hard to give as good as they got. Canny substitutions kept things fresh, with Elliot and Louis E strengthening midfield and Max providing fresh legs in defence. Despite the composed passing and regular forays deep into the Kingswood half, there were few clear cut chances and the first half ended 0-0, although home fans definitely felt that Cosmos had edged it so far.

More of the same would surely be enough and Cosmos started the second half with a similar game-plan. However, Kingswood won a corner fairly early on; the ball arrived in the area and ended up in the back of the net after some scrappy play in the goalmouth. Maybe not expecting to find themselves a goal down, Cosmos lost a little of their composure, but with some tactical substitutions and encouragement pouring in from the touchline, the players managed to get their heads back up. Kingswood were pushing to make the game safe, but Leo was strong in goal and Cosmos defended in numbers when necessary. The last 10 minutes saw the tide turn and clearances from Jeremias and Max were regularly picked up by the midfield. Louis E was strong on the ball and Josh showed some great play on the wing. Elliot was resolute in central midfield, linking up the play and snuffing out Kingswood attacks, with Harry, Freddie and Tye all doing their best to pass their way through the Kingswood players in search of that elusive equaliser. Joe came within a whisker of rescuing a point, firing off a powerful shot from just inside the area, but it was not to be as the ball flew agonisingly over the crossbar.

Despite the disappointing result, the team did themselves proud, playing some great football with lots of slick passing. Joe took man of the match for his impressive work up front and more generally the whole team deserved commendation for a very promising display.
