Storm Desmond, didn't stop the brave players and parents from turning out at Marble Hill for the introductory district football challenge. Indeed even the 8.30am arrival and 9.am kick off couldn't wipe the smiles of delight from the wind swept faces.
Simon cunningly used his office equipment to print out the sheets for the mornings lineup.
4 teams 6 games and 1 winner.
Hampton FC, Twickenham-Tigers, MM Galaxy and MM Stormers
The MoorMead coaches Joined the Saturday casual players with the Epsom and Ewell league team and created two mixed teams of 9. MM Galaxy weighted in favour of an attacking midfield whilst MM stormers a stronghold defensive backline.
The clock was close to 9 and the MM Galaxy gravitated towards the pitch to take on Hampton in the first of the six twenty minute games. The game ended in a 1-0 win for the Stellar Galaxy.
Next was the aptly named MM Stormers taking on the Twickenham Tigers. The Stormers and Hurricane Desmond couldn't stop the Tigers roaring 0-2 win.
The Tigers stayed on the pitch looking for the next kill. Next up the Galaxy. This was a hard fought game with chances for both teams. The Tigers kept up their impressive start with another victory 0-1.
MoorMead Galaxy v MoorMead Stormers!! The match got off to a cracking start the unstoppable force and the unmovable object. The Galaxy broke through the backline and scored a well worked goal. The Stormers responded with a metamorphic change of shape right and left backs became right and left attacking midfielders driving the ball up the pitch and crossing into the path of the loan striker 1-1 game on. The clock was the wrong side of 19 minuets when the Galaxy won the decisive corner. The wind assisted ball riffled through the 6 yard box and struck boot of the well timed run by the centre forward 2-1! Game over.
The MM Stormers v Hampton. The Stormers reverted back to defence and held the backline repealing the advancing forward runs from Hampton. 0-0
Hampton v Twickenham Tigers. No home advantage here, and the first time these teams had met. The first 10 minutes saw chances at both ends with great saves from both keepers, a quick half turn and a nifty run from the Tigers central midfielder ended with a deft through ball between the Hampton defenders chased down and taped into the right hand corner by the Tigers centre forward. 0-1 to the victorious Tigers.
